Northwest River Park is a 763-acre park in Chesapeake, VA. From paddling, disc golf, fishing, bird-watching, geocaching, camping, hiking, biking, and even horse-back riding, Northwest River Park has something for everybody. There’s miles of trails to explore, over 200 bird species, and a beautiful waterway to enjoy.

As soon as you arrive, you can see what all the fuss is about in the safe confines of Lake Lesa and the quiet waterway that explores the interior of the park. There’s ramps off Indian Creek Road and Baum Road that let you explore Indian and Smith creeks and Northwest River.

Paddling isn’t the only reason to visit Northwest River Park. Fish are stocked in the waters and fishing can be enjoyed year round. The Trail System here is also worth a visit all on its own. The seven-trail system totals nearly 8 miles. These trails are ripe for exploring whether on foot, bike, or even horse. Keep your eyes and ears open for birds while you’re out there. The Chesapeake is a known sanctuary area for more than 200 bird species. Stop into the Virginia Beach store, only 25 miles from Northwest River Park, and snag a pair of Nocs Provisions for all the bird watching galore.

Overnight camping is permitted and the park has several amenities to make your stay comfortable. Accommodations can even be made for your horse (or Mule) to camp as well. Other actives include an 18-hole Mini Golf Course as well as a Disc Golf Course that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Additionally, there’s over 20 geocaches hidden throughout the park for geocaching enthusiasts to discover. Whatever kind of outdoors-person you are, Northwest River Park has an activity for all.
