Pool Sessions for the Winter of 2019

Where: Gateway YWCA (near Old Salem and School of the Arts)

When: 4:30p-7:30p on the below mentioned Saturdays. Can come at 4:00p to start cleaning boats. Out of the building by 7:30

Dates: January 5th, and 19th, February 2nd, and 16th, March 2nd, and 16th. MARK YOUR CALENDARS NOW!

Special note: the February 2nd time will be shifted back by @30 due to a swim meet.

Activity: Bring your own (clean) Boat for time to practice skills in warm water with friends. GOPC staff will offer assistance on skills such as rolling but this is not a structured class; it’s better. GOPC also has some Demo Boats that we will make available on a first come first serve basis at the pool. We may not bring every boat each time so you may want to check with Ward at the shop (336-727-0906) the week before to be sure the boat you want will be there. Due to the popularity of this program, we have secured the whole pool again for this year. That’s right, for all you guys who want a running start to do a bow stall you will have the room to do so.

Cost: STILL $10. All proceeds go to sustaining program. An additional option will be to pay in one lump sum $40 for the whole 6 session series (that’s a $20 saving). This is for those folks who don’t want to have to fill out a waiver each time and/or are younger  than 18 years old but who don’t want to have to have parents come every time (just to fill out the waiver). Check in will be much easier. You can sign up for this package deal at the store up to the Wednesday before the second session. Along with the fee you will fill out the paperwork once and that’s it; you are DONE for the rest of the pool series!

As a special note to the hot tub users, this year we have paid extra to have the hot tub useable at the time of our practice. Who doesn’t like to warm up from the pool by soaking in a little heat? I have been assured that the variability of last year’s hot tub has been straightened out.

Winston-Salem is heaven for the avid outdoorsman. We have both lakes and rivers, allowing for a variety of daytime trips, from paddling the frisky Dan River to fishing right in town at Salem Lake.  Our incredible staff members cite Hanging Rock State Park as one of their favorite places in the country for climbing and exploring. There are seven miles of natural trail way around Salem Lake, and Pilot Mountain and the Sauratown Trail are great options if you have a bit more time.

We here at Great Outdoor Provision Co. want you to take advantage of everything Winston-Salem has to offer – even the things you don’t know about yet! Our manager, Darren Schwartz, and his staff have worn paths in many of the trails around Winston-Salem, from the most popular to the obscure, can’t-even-find-it-on-the-Internet places. We don’t mean for these best-kept secrets to stay secret, though! At our store, we’re more than happy to share all of the knowledge we’ve gathered with you.

Throughout our adventures, we have spent time testing several of the products in our store. You may not realize that the backpack that feels great when you wear it for five minutes in the store will rub your sides raw after eight hours on the trail. That’s where we come in. We’ll tell you what has worked for us and what hasn’t, so you can make an educated decision about your outdoor purchases. Come check out our store at the Thruway Shopping Center – we can’t wait to see you!
