This dirt and gravel path currently runs from the Town Commons downtown downstream along the Tar River. The trail currently ends at Greensprings Park. The emphasis here on “currently” because plans call for the path to eventually run downstream to Washington (North Carolina’s Washington, not the one up north). And, the trail is part of the Historic Coastal Route, an alternate route of the East Coast Greenway through North Carolina. That means it eventually will run upstream to Raleigh, downstream to New Bern. Plans also call for additional greenway expansion within Greenville.
The trail gives Greenville residents a natural leg stretcher in the heart of town. A nice option when you don’t have time to pack up for the day and hit one of the regional state parks.
