This highly recommended run originates out of the Piedmont Environmental Center, hugs the west bank of High Point Lake then loops back inland and catches the paved Bicentennial Greenway for a return to the trailhead. The scenery is noteworthy; the trail is shaded by a dense hardwood canopy (during warm weather, at least). The greenway stretch makes for a speedy finish.
It’s the perfect trail run for when you don’t have much time. When time isn’t an issue, however, you can tap into adjoining trails for longer training runs. The Bicentennial Greenway http://getgoingnc.com/high-point-bicentennial-greenway-2/ alone includes 8 miles of asphalt on this stretch and will eventually run 15 miles into the heart of Greensboro. The Piedmont Environmental Center contributes another several miles of natural surface trail.
