Camping at Pettigrew State Park is like camping back in time. The campground is located on the north side of Lake Phelps, also home of one of the best old growth forests in the state, featuring some of the oldest — and biggest — bay trees, sweet gums, persimmons and pawpaws in the state as well as Atlantic white cedars with trunks three feet in diameter and towering 100 feet.
