Most hikers may recognize Randy Johnson as the author of numerous hiking guides in North Carolina and Virginia, a background that certainly helps when leading hikes. But what most hikers may not know is that Randy founded the trail program at Grandfather Mountain in the mid-1970s. He designed and built trails on the mountain and oversaw backcountry management and research that was pivotal in establishing preservation efforts at Grandfather Mountain.
