Who doesn’t crave a good run over lunch to break up the workday? In Greenville, you can satisfy such cravings with the South Tar River Greenway, starting in the heart of downtown.
From Town Common Park two blocks from the courthouse, head downstream on the greenway, which flirts with civilization before settling into its bucolic state. For the first couple of miles the trail hugs the south bank of the Tar River. At Green Mill Run it heads upstream, heading back toward town. You can either take the trail to its conclusion in Green Springs Park and reverse course (which will give you closer to 6 miles), or take the short connector up to Fifth Street, go up a block to Beech Street and go left, then, after three blocks, catch a connector trail that takes you back to the greenway.
This is a flat, fast run — perfect for squeezing in over the lunch hour.
