In 1995, Leroy Springs and Co. took over operation of the Anne Springs Close Greenway in Fort Mill, S.C. Since then, among other things, the 2,300-acre ASC Greenway has grown to include 35 miles of multiuse trail, much of which is well-suited to trail running. The trail network offers a variety of loop options.

For instance, there’s the 3.5-mile Sugar Loop Trail, which begins at the Fort Mill Recreation Complex. From the Complex tunnel the trail runs to Sugar Island, heads south through the Sugar Creek floodplain, then veers west back to the start. Or there’s the 3.2-mile School Loop (like the Sugar Loop, open to mountain biking as well), or for something longer, the 7.2-mile Blue Star Loop. The possibilities create opportunity for great variety, both in distance and terrain.
The scenery at Anne Springs Close helps make the miles pass in a flash. You’ll pass historic cabins, a grist mill with working waterwheel, and kilometer after kilometer of natural beauty.
This being a private preserve, there is a fee. $3 per visit for foot traffic, $65 a year if you plan to make ASC part of your regular training regimen.
