There are several winter camping options at New River State Park, a linear park following its namesake river and known for one thing: paddling. The Wagoner Road Access has 10 primitive campsites (with bathrooms and hot-water showers). The US 221 Access has two areas: a primitive site with 15 campsites (including bathrooms and hot-water showers) and a 20-site drive-in campground with a dump station, bathrooms and hot-water showers. (There’s also a canoe-only campsite, the Alleghany County Access, with 8 sites.)

The emphasis at New River State Park is on paddling. All sites offer quick access to the water.
