W-S Kayak Pool Session @ Gateway YWCA
Mar 4 @ 4:30 pm – 7:30 pm
W-S Kayak Pool Session @ Gateway YWCA | Winston-Salem | North Carolina | United States

Bring your own (clean) Boat for time to practice skills in warm water with friends. GOPC staff will offer assistance on skills such as rolling but this is not a structured class; it’s better. GOPC also has some Demo Boats that we will make available on a first come first serve basis at the pool. We may not bring every boat each time so you may want to check with Ward at the shop (336-727-0906) the week before to be sure the boat you want will be there. Due to the popularity of this program, we have secured the whole pool again for this year. That’s right, for all you guys who want a running start to do a bow stall you will have the room to do so.

Cost: STILL $10. All proceeds go to sustaining program. An additional option will be to pay in one lump sum $50 for the whole 8 session series (that’s a $30 saving). This is for those folks who don’t want to have to fill out a waiver each time and/or are younger than 18 years old but who don’t want to have to have parents come every time (just to fill out the waiver). Check in will be much easier. You can sign up for this package deal at the store up to the Wednesday before the second session. Along with the fee you will fill out the paperwork once and that’s it; you are DONE for the rest of the pool series!

As a special note to the hot tub users, this year we have paid extra to have the hot tub useable at the time of our practice. Who doesn’t like to warm up from the pool by soaking in a little heat?

Please share post to spread the word.

FMST Annual Conference
Mar 24 – Mar 26 all-day
FMST Annual Conference @ Elkin | North Carolina | United States

The weekend of March 24th through 26th kicks off the 40th Anniversary celebrations of the MST with an expanded annual meeting, the Gathering of Friends, in Elkin, a friendly trail town between Stone and Pilot Mountain state parks that has enthusiastically embraced the MST.

The weekend will officially begin Friday evening with a Hiking Boot Gala – an evening of fellowship and recognition of the accomplishments of the first 40 years.

On Saturday, the annual membership meeting will focus on where the trail is headed and goals for the next 40 years.  National Geographic Adventurer of the Year Jennifer Pharr Davis, who will hike the MST in 2017, will be the keynote speaker.

Throughout the weekend – from Friday through mid-day Sunday – the Elkin Valley Trail Association is organizing a program of great Trail & Town Excursions – from hikes to mountain biking, from winery tours to paddling on the Yadkin – to help attendees explore the great MST sections in the area. Many of these will start mid-day on Friday, so plan to head up early to explore the area.

Greensboro and surrounding areas are filled with great vistas!

Greensboro has everything: paddling and fishing at Lake Brandt or the Haw River, hiking and trail running at the Piedmont Environmental Center or the Watershed Lakes trails, and bike trails with majestic views at Hanging Rock State Park and Uwharrie National Forest. Whatever your pleasure is, the Great Outdoor Provision Co. will make sure that you have everything you need to meet the trail (or river) head on. From the big purchases, like a kayak, to the smallest, like a carabiner, Great Outdoor Provision Co. has you covered.

We don’t just carry all of the products you’ll need for your outdoor adventures. Our manager, Rob Arends, and his staff offers something equally, if not more important: knowledge and education about the great outdoors. We spend our off days using the same equipment we sell, so we can tell you what to expect where you’re going, and what things you do or don’t need.

Our motto – explore global, shop local – epitomizes the way we do our business. We want to open the world to exploration, and it starts with our community. Stop by our store, and let us show you what Greensboro has to offer. You might be surprised at the wilderness right outside our back door.
