Irvin Farm Partnership
Triangle Land Conservancy
A local farms and food collaboration, the Irvin Farm Partnership is the first of its kind in North Carolina – one that could serve as a model across the state and the Southeast. The partnership combines the expertise of four organizations – including Triangle Land Conservancy – through an innovative program that provides educational and training opportunities for new and emerging farmers; supplies locally-grown food to those most at need in our community; and increases the availability of local foods to farmer’s markets, area restaurants and residents.
TLC’s 269-acre Irvin Farm along the Orange-Chatham county line will serve as the site of the program that also aims to improve community health and well-being and boost the local economy. In addition to TLC, the collaboration involves the Inter-Faith Food Shuttle; Central Carolina Community College; and W.C. Breeze Family Farm Agricultural Extension & Research Center.

Knight Brown Nature Preserve
Piedmont Land Conservancy
Knight Brown Nature Preserve contains 150 acres of undisturbed forestland near Stokesdale in Rockingham County. Piedmont Land Conservancy was given the property in September of 2008 by Cecilia Brown, a California resident who had recently inherited the property. Cecilia found PLC when looking for a loving home for the property. PLC now owns the property and utilizes it as an environmental education center for hikes, outings and wildlife viewing. Funds from the grant would be used to develop materials to improve educational opportunities for local residents, school children and outdoor groups who visit the site.

Redlair Farm & Forest
Catawba Lands Conservancy
Located in Gaston County, Redlair Farm & Forest is a 730-acre ecological jewel that includes 4.5 miles of river frontage along the South Fork Catawba River and old growth hardwood forests. These protected lands host one of the largest populations of the Bigleaf Magnolia east of the Appalachian Mountains and provide fields for the endangered Schweinitz’s sunflower. The land’s rich ecology offers regional universities an ideal “outdoor classroom” for students, professors and researchers. Catawba Lands Conservancy hosts its annual meeting and family festival at Redlair, offering visitors the opportunity to celebrate the great outdoors, paddle the South Fork, learn about our local environment and hike Redlair’s extensive trail system. Your vote for Redlair Farm & Forest will help the Conservancy ensure that this land is protected for the enjoyment and education of future generations.
Airlie GardensNorth Carolina Coastal Land Trust
Filled with over 100,000 azaleas, countless varieties of camellias, and the majestic 462 year-old Airlie Oak, Airlie Gardens has been described as the “quintessential Southern garden.” Featuring a stunning arrangement of formal gardens, historic sites, treasured artwork, and freshwater lakes, over 80,000 visitors visit each year to enjoy one of the true natural treasures of the Cape Fear region. Purchased by New Hanover County in 1999, the property is now facing the prospect of being sold to offset the current budget deficit. Your vote will help the Coastal Land Trust in our efforts to protect Airlie Gardens forever with a conservation easement that will allow the gardens to flourish for centuries to come.
