DESCRIPTION: The Hurricane Tracer is an exceptional value in a sea kayak. This kayak is nearly as stiff and light as Composite boats costing 1500 more. However, the Tracer is roughly the same price as a good rotomolded polyethylene sea kayak. The secret to the Tracers value can be found in its Thermoformed construction.
Two sheets of ABS plastic with an Acrylic cap are heated, vacuum formed and bonded together. The result is a kayak that is light, attractive, stiff and with 5 times the UV resistance of the typical Polyethylene boat. Although the Thermoformed ABS construction yields greater UV stability and stiffness, ABS is not as impact resistant as Polyethylene. Consequently, Thermoformed ABS is not recommended for abusive environments such as Whitewater.
The Hurricane Tracer is a well rounded Touring Kayak. This boat is equally at home on deep, slow moving Rivers, Ponds and big Lakes, Marshes and Estuaries, Sounds and the Outer Banks. You can take the Tracer out to the local lake after work for an hour of fitness paddling or you can take the kayak out for an extended weekend at the Coast.
The Shallow V Hull provides good Seaworthiness and responds well to edging. If edged properly, the Hurricane Tracer will Maneuver like a 14 ft Hybrid kayak. In terms of efficiency, an average paddler can expect to cover 4 - 5 miles in an hour of paddling. The Tracers displacement and cockpit volume makes it best suited for medium to large sized paddlers.
