DESCRIPTION: The Hurricane Open Bay 120 is based on the popular Phoenix 120. In fact, the two boats use the same Hull. Consequently, the Open Bay 120 is quick and maneuverable -just like the Phoenix series. However, the difference between the two boats is that the new Open Bay 120 has a very open and clean deck layout, making this SOT particularly useful for Kayak Fishing, Wildlife Viewing or any other activity in which you want quick, unrestricted access to your gear.
The biggest advantage to the Open Bay 120 is in its lightweight construction. Two sheets of ABS plastic with an Acrylic cap are heated, vacuum formed and bonded together. The result is a kayak that is light, attractive, stiff and with 5 times the UV resistance of the typical Polyethylene boat. Although the Thermoformed ABS construction yields greater UV stability, abrasion resistance and stiffness, ABS is not as impact resistant as Polyethylene. Consequently, Thermoformed ABS is not recommended for abusive environments such as Whitewater.
Our version of the the Open Bay 120 has built in Rod Holders, Bow Deck Rigging and a Paddle Park. While not quite as stable as more beamy kayaks, the Open Bay 120 is Stable enough to fish for experienced Anglers, while providing a responsive paddling experience in a lightweight SOT.
