DESCRIPTION: The newly redesigned Hurricane Santee 116 has a stiffer deck, a paddle park and security loop. The clean deck layout hides a small hatch underneath. The Santee 116 is designed to be Light, Efficient and Comfortable. At only 36 lbs, this is one of the lightest Rec kayaks of its length, regardless of price. The secret to this weight savings can be found in its Thermoformed construction.
Two sheets of ABS plastic with an Acrylic cap are heated, vacuum formed and bonded together. The result is a kayak that is light, attractive, stiff and with 5 times the UV resistance of the typical Polyethylene boat. Although the Thermoformed ABS construction yields greater UV stability, abrasion resistance and stiffness, ABS is not as impact resistant as Polyethylene. Consequently, Thermoformed ABS is not recommended for abusive environments such as Whitewater.
The stable Santee 116 is ideal for Ponds, Small Lakes, Marshes and other Protected Waterways. The Swede form Hull Design of the Santee 116 gives a good blend of maneuverability and efficiency. An average paddler can expect to cover 2-2.5 miles in an hour of paddling. If you are looking for a deluxe Recreational Kayak, the Santee 116 represents the very best in the category.
