2007 Wrightsville Beach Sea Kayak Race Results

Monday, November 26th, 2007

» Pics just added to our our FLICKR page

On Saturday, November 3rd, the 2007 Wrightsville Beach Sea Kayak Race went off in the wake of Hurricane Noel. Predicted wind gusts of 20+ kept the faint of heart away, but the dedicated once again came out for a great event. Fifty-two racers were treated to tempertures in the mid-sixties and winds out of the northwest at 15 mph. All proceeds from the race benefit the NC Coastal Land Trust, a local non-profit that works hard to preserve our coastal environment. Race proceeds totals have not been finalized, but will be over $2000. The race started soundside across from the Blockade Runner Hotel and was composed of a 6-mile main event, a 3-mile fun race and a 500-meter sprint for kids. Hurricane Kayaks gave away a $900 kayak in the after event raffle along with $2000 in other outdoor gear that was aquired by Great Outdoor Provision Co., one of the two main sponsors of the race. Salt Marsh Kayak Company hosted and organized the race. For race results by time and class, please click the links below.

Monday, November 12th, 2007

BOOK SIGNING: Alan De Hart will be at our Cameron Village Shop from 12:30 till 2:30 on Sat Dec 8th to sign the new edition of Trails of the Triangle

Trails of the TriangleThe Triangle, which encompasses the area around Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, North Carolina, is consistently rated one of the best places in the nation to live and work. The new edition of this hiking guide reflects the changes that have occurred in the fifth-fastest-growing metropolitan region in the country during the decade since the book was first published.

The book offers close to 250 different trails within a 60-mile radius of the Triangle. The hikes can be found on federal, state, city/county, and even private property. Trails range in distance from a few yards, such as the 92-yards Honeysuckle Lane Trail in Fuquay-Varina to the 26-mile Falls Lake Trail. There are residential trails such as Shelly Lake Trail, which is so popular that it has a speed limit of 10 miles per hour and a centerline to separate traffic. There are trails in remote forests, such as the Summit Loop Trail, where you may not see another person. You can find trails for equestrians, in-line skaters, cyclists, and even the physically impaired.
