The main office/warehouse crew geared up in their Halloween best again this year. The unofficial winner was Chuck as D.J. G$OPC. The girl scouts & human smores came in a close second. Followed by Rob as Walter Sobchak from The Big Lebowski

FROM SNEWS: Finding the perfect versatile pack is a dicey proposition. Even an ultra light, ultra minimal overnight bag is usually too big for much else. And versatile daypacks often lack the type of technical features that make the best light-and-fast overnight bags so successful. Osprey’s Talon 33 manages to combine all the best features of a quick overnight bag with all the ease and versatility of a go-to daypack.
The pack was minimalist without being ridiculous in many ways. It opens up in one large 2,200-cubic-inch compartment that we were able to stuff full of gear, but still featured a handy top pouch for wallet, keys and sunblock, as well as a stuffable front panel for an extra shell (or, as one tester found, extra kids clothes). Plus, the waist strap pockets fit a digital camera and energy bars perfectly. All of this at just 2 pounds.
US East finishes 6th. Congrats to World Champion Ross Fulcher and the other US East Finalists!
Well the 2007 World Surf Kayaking Championships are officially over. Here is a run down of what happened over the final days.
The US East team hung in with the pack throughout. We were consistantly in the 4th and 3rd spots over the first two rounds of the event. We won or got second in some crucial heats, and all of our team members were going for big drops and giving it their all. This contest was particularly difficult because there were 9 full teams from all over the world, a first for the World Championships.
We got a chance to surf Mundaka for the second round of the team event, which was a great experience for everyone. In the end we finished in 6th place, 3 points behind the US West in 5th. All in all we surfed respectibly and were glad to get a chance to compete against the World’s best. Congrats to the finalists…..1st Basque, 2nd Northern Ireland, 3rd Jersey, and 4th England.

Come help FMST extend the Falls Lake Trail to Durham. Great Outdoor Provision Co. will be providing Chick-fil-a breakfast for the workers! Great Outdoor Provision Co. joined forces with Patagonia to purchase a trailer (pictured below) to store & transport all the Trail Crew tools.
Wake and Durham Counties - All land agencies have approved the MST routing from Old Boyce Mill Road to Rolling View (Phase II - 6 miles). The Friends of the Mountains to Sea Trail (FMST) will host a work day at Falls Lake, a segment of the Mountains-to-Sea Trail, on Saturday - see above dates from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The day will also consist of new trail construction (natural surface - hiking only) such as clearing brush, moving logs, and picking up debris. Additional volunteers and volunteer groups are welcomed. Volunteers must RSVP to 919-868-6274 or jdbrewer@bellsouth.net so we can plan work projects and have enough tools. Tools needed for the day include loppers, bowsaws, and mattocks. The FMST will supply most of the tools for this event. Please wear work clothes and bring a bag lunch, plenty of water, work gloves, hiking boots, and sunscreen. Sorry no dogs allowed at our workdays for safety reasons. If you are under the age of 12, please consult us before attending workdays.
All interested should meet at the Rolling View State Recreation Area at 9:00 AM shart. To get to Rolling View take Highway 98 to Baptist Road (at Neal Middle School) and follow it to Rolling View. Look for signs on the road that say “MST Work”.

Icebreaker is fussy about their fibres. They procure the best pure merino available, direct from the mountains of New Zealand. And then make their own fabrics using icebreaker technology. Originally they had to, as no-one could supply what they wanted. Then it turned into a passion and a source of innovation. They have set up contracts direct with the farmers who grow the wool.
